America’s Top New Year’s Eve Celebrations

New Year’s Eve is synonymous with celebration. From fireworks to dance parties to gourmet dinners, people look forward to the revelry that New Year’s brings. Here are some of America’s top destinations for New Year’s Eve festivities.

Times Square, New York

Without a doubt, the most well-known and well-attended New Year’s Eve party in America takes place in the ‘City That Never Sleeps’. Partiers start gathering around noon on December 31st to secure a spot close to the famed New Year’s Eve Ball. An estimated one million people will share in the excitement and energy that swirls through the cold New York air.

Some of music’s top artists perform in Times Square on New Year’s Eve. These year’s performers include Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, Demi Lovato and Wiz Khalifa with Charlie Puth. Local restaurants and bars offer dinner and drink specials and provide a place for tourists and locals to gather and partake in the celebration. Las Vegas, Nevada

Atlanta, Georgia

Dubbed ‘The Largest New Year’s Eve Celebration in the Southeast’, Atlanta’s “Peach Drop” is a full-day, family-friendly party. Over 100,000 people gather in Underground Atlanta to hear live music, ride carousel rides, eat delicious Southern cuisine and dance with the many street performers. At 11:59pm, spectators begin the countdown and watch as the 800 pound peach descends from its perch 200 feet in the air. A fireworks display follows the peach drop to ring in the New Year, Georgia style. The band Sister Haze and rapper T.I. will be performing at this year’s Peach Drop. New Orleans, Louisiana

With Mardi Gras starting just six days after New Year’s Day, New Orleans considers New Year’s Eve the warm-up to the real party. Restaurants and nightclubs all along the French Quarter take part in the festivities, offering dinner specials and live music. Revelers can watch a giant fleur de lis descend as the clock strikes 12 and stay for fireworks over the Mississippi River.

Those looking for family-friendly New Year’s Eve activities can check out the Louisiana Children’s Museum. Their ‘Countdown to Noon’ starts at 9:30am on December 31 and features live music and a confetti drop at 12pm. The Audubon Zoo also hosts a mid-day New Year’s Eve celebration.
